I've gone to school last Saturday (23rd Oct 2010). I was so associated to the school that I could not stop going there though I'd severe issues in office.
There were many reasons
1) I did not go to the school after school kits distribution - 4th Sept 2010
2) The leads are not at all comfortable with the way teachers are behaving
3) The teachers started showing their utmost longing for the kits though the kits are for the students
4) Science fair is going to be conducted in school on 30th Oct 2010 within one week's time
I was happy I saw the children but could not get time to spend with them except receiving the smiles and wishes wherever students saw me.
Went to HM room along with Mahender Sir and Phani. A new issue cropped in due to a company planning to give uniforms to the school which was already done by ours. This is not a great surprise and shock to me as I've observed the teachers from a long time. They are ready to accept anything with out thinking about anything else and they are not even ready to tell the company to give the uniforms to the primary school to whom we have not given or redirect to any other school which is in need. They want to keep it for themselves (the school).
A question that always crawls in my mind one million times is what do they get, why they are so selfish towards such kinda help coming from others.
They always come to ask for books, repairs, uniforms etc
Never did they approach with the academic reports of the students.
They always struggle do get something out of us
Never did they return us that would make us feel good.
They always look for photos, gifts, kits
Never did they bother about the factors - Improving the students thinking, performance, discipline.
We were shown a big book with a noted timetable of what is being done for 10th class students. I doubt seriously on how it is actually implemented.
Where actually the efforts to solve the problem of the students is happening.
The only justification I always got is the primary school studies should have been better and the reason for the student's failure is totally delegated to primary school teachers.
That might be the fact.
Can't the situation be turned?
Can't they spend at least an hour to teach the children basics which they lack?
Is it highly impossible?
One more frequently discussed point is - the obvious choice for the students who got TC from private schools due to their poor performance and irregularity is the government school. The parents do not think education yields them any benefit.
Can't they change their minds?
Isn't it part of education?
Isn't it covered in their so called teacher training?
We always see the teachers having gossips even during class time.
Few roam around as if they have nothing to do.
Why can't they go, take a class and inspire the students at their leisure time.
Are they really that tired? NO.
Do they not have the skills? NO.
Can they have self satisfaction? (I bet they ever thought about it)
Can't they spend an extra hour to improve the students? (A big joke!)
Phani was suggesting to identify one good teacher and improve the school.
Yeah, that's true, one teacher is enough to change the entire school.......
Is it easy to trace such teacher who can selflessly do this? Seriously NO...
Without a second thought, my obvious answer - there is no ONE and even he knows it.
Every teacher in school is selfish, political minded and checks for what's there in it for me.
At one moment after the discussion, I started thinking to resign from my software career and start teaching. The last two years or so, made me a better person and I am sure one day I will quit and start teaching kids which is one of the biggest dreams from my childhood. All the things I am facing now, have shown me what is expected out of a teacher. But the teachers who are already in field, why don't they churn and make the society a better place for the children they are dealing with.
In search of a solution that would benefit not just the students, the future of our country....
